Hillsdale does not offer undergraduate preparation for a career in social work. But for employment in social services or social work, the Master of Social Work degree is normally expected. Work in sociology and related fields at the undergraduate level, along with Hillsdale’s core program, is excellent preparation for applying to MSW programs.
If you are thinking of pursuing an MSW after graduation from Hillsdale, background in both psychology and sociology is strongly recommended. We recommend considering a major in one of the two and a minor in the other. We also recommend making sure that you complete an undergraduate course in statistics, even if your major does not require it. Feel free to consult with Dr. Blum if you would like assistance in constructing a pre-MSW program.
